Khlong Bang Luang Market is a canalside art market in Phasi Charoen — a quiet heritage community on the Thonburi side of Bangkok where descendants of the original canal-dwelling residents have preserved their riverside way of life for modern visitors to experience. Despite being known locally as a floating market, it’s not a floating market in the traditional sense; it’s more of a canalside cultural quarter, with the canal itself providing the backdrop rather than the trading ground.

Baan Silapin – Artist’s House
The centrepiece of the market is Baan Silapin (Artist’s House), an old wooden house dating back to the Ayutthaya era that has been converted into a gallery and creative space. Inside, visitors will find traditional Thai paintings, handmade products, and opportunities to craft their own souvenirs — including necklaces, bracelets, and hairbands. Every weekend at 2:00 PM, Baan Silapin hosts a traditional puppet show at the market entrance. The performance changes weekly, making each visit a different experience.

The Market
The market itself is compact — around 15 minutes to walk through — with retro-style craft stalls selling handmade, high-quality products at affordable prices. Some stalls are air-conditioned, others open-air. Food options include Thai eateries, good coffee, and boats selling noodle dishes from the canal. Krua Khun Oi restaurant near the market entrance is a popular spot.

Heritage & Art
The Khlong Bang Luang community is notable for murals inside the local church by Khrua Inkhong — a celebrated 19th-century Thai painter. The area also features two bridges that serve as popular photo spots, along with Baan Phueng Silp and other scenic corners. Long-tail boats pass the canal every few minutes as part of Bangkok canal boat tours.

Getting There
By car: enter via Soi Phetkasem 20 and park at Wat Kamphaeng Bang Chak. By public transport: take the MRT Blue Line to Bang Phai station (exit 4), then a motorcycle taxi (15 baht) to the market. Walk left from Wat Kamphaeng, facing the canal — the entrance is near Krua Khun Oi restaurant.

Khlong Bang Luang is a peaceful canal community offering a lovely look at traditional life. The Artist’s House (Baan Silapin) is a must-see for art and workshops. It's a perfect place to relax by the water.

The mood is great, but there are so many tourists on weekends! And if it's really hot and sunny, you might faint if you don't bring a small portable fan! 🤣 🖌️🎨 There are more than one shop offering workshops, so you can choose! 🍜☕️ The food and drink prices aren't too expensive, just average. 🐠 There are also spots to feed the fish, where you can relax comfortably. The water isn't too murky; it's like a canal, as long as it's not polluted and black. This place is pretty good, I didn't find much spoiled food. There are lots of places to walk around, in the side streets, across bridges, and even towards Wat Kamphaeng Bang Chak. 🚘 I drove my own car and parked at the Wat Kuhasawan Worawihan parking lot. Parking is free, but there aren't many spaces. Alternatively, you can park at Wat Bot Intharasarapet, where you can donate a small fee at the entrance, but it's a bit of a walk as it's before Wat Kuhasawan.

The floating market isn't large, but it's close to downtown Bangkok. If you only have two or three hours, it's worth a visit.
