The Japan Foundation Bangkok is a Japanese cultural centre Bangkok has welcomed since 1974, dedicated to fostering cultural exchange between Japan and Thailand through art, language, and dialogue. A branch of the global Japan Foundation network, the Bangkok office operates across two areas: arts and cultural exchange, and Japanese language education and Japan studies.

The arts programme runs a full calendar of exhibitions, music concerts, stage performances, film screenings, and academic lectures, delivered in partnership with Japanese and Thai counterparts. The Japan Foundation also supports individuals and organisations planning international cultural exchange projects through its JFBKK small grant programme.

The JFBKK Library holds an extensive collection of books, periodicals, films, and materials on Japan — available free for on-site reading. Borrowing is open to members for a modest annual fee, making it one of the most comprehensive Japan-focused research resources in Thailand.
Open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Closed weekends and public holidays.

It was quite disappointing 🫤 Here are the points that bothered me: 1. Entry At the reception on the 1st floor of the building, you present your passport or other identification and state that you want to go to the 10th floor. They record your ID information and give you a card. This card opens the gate and allows you to go only to the designated floor. There are no destination floor buttons inside the elevator; you hold the card over a reader in front of the elevator entrance, and it will show you which elevator to take. You need to be careful when you leave temporarily. When you leave, the card won't open the gate, and you need to go back to the reception to have it opened, and you have to return the card. When you return, you'll need to show your passport or other identification again, so it will be troublesome if you leave it inside. 2. Internet Environment It's not good. There is Wi-Fi, but you have to ask the lady at the counter to handwrite your name and ID number, receive a slip of paper with a username and password, and enter that. The problem starts here: it only works on one PC or smartphone at a time. If you try to log in with the same ID and password on another device after logging in, you get an error. Repeating this process renders the ID and password unusable. Also, for reasons unknown, it displayed a message saying "Limit reached," and became unusable. Furthermore, although there are four bars of signal strength inside the building, the Gemini home screen takes 20-30 seconds or even longer to display, and ultimately doesn't open at all, which is quite problematic. I suspect they're sharing a home router, but even with tethering, while there's a signal, the speed and response are noticeably slow, making it frankly frustrating and unusable. The building is a complete office building, and the food court on the first floor closes completely around 3 PM, so you can't even grab a break and a light snack if you're hungry. Aside from being able to charge your devices, there seems to be no advantage to coming here, which is far from the station. I was disappointed, especially since I had high expectations.
